Support for exhibition

Parallel to support for distribution, the Euromed Cinemas programme also provides support for European and Mediterranean exhibitors. The fact is that support provided to distribution companies releasing Mediterranean films in the European Union and European and Mediterranean films in the MEDA region cannot be fully effective unless cinemas wishing to program such films are encouraged at the same time.

By providing financial support to Mediterranean and European exhibitors, the Euromed Cinemas programme seeks to increase the existing demand for films issued from the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, and to provide distributors of these works with increased access to cinema theatres.

The Euromed Cinemas programme's Committee of Experts meets periodically to examine applications submitted by European and Mediterranean distributors. On allocating distribution support for a film in a given territory, it may also decide to support cinemas that programme the film for at least one week within the first four weeks of its release following the national date of release in this territory.
The main objective of this exhibition support is to accompany the exhibitors in their effort for showing the film at the time of its launch, and, by providing a financial support, to enable them to choose "difficult" films.

Unlike distributors, exhibitors do not need to submit an application. Once the Committee of Experts agrees in principle that a film should receive exhibition support, after the release of the film the Euromed Cinemas team contacts cinema theatres directly to initiate the exhibition support process.

Support modalities to European exhibitors

A cinema located in one of the 25 countries of the European Union* could receive a support for programming a film originating from one of the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, The Palestinian Territories, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey

This support is implemented within the framework of the Euromed Cinemas programme, financed by the European Union, which aims, by means of a support for the distribution and exhibition, to reinforce the visibility in Europe of films originating from the 10 MEDA countries listed above.

The guidelines of this programme are available online :
www.euromed-cinemas.org

To get a support, a cinema will have to fulfil simultaneously the 3 following conditions:

1. The cinema must programme the film at least one week during the 4 first weeks of programming following the release date in the country.
2. During this week, the cinema must programme the film a minimum of 14 screenings.
3. During this week, the film must obtain a minimum of 100 admissions.

If the cinema fulfils the 3 conditions, the support per week and per cinema is 500 € maximum and will never exceed 1 € per admission.

A cinema can be supported for one film for 2 weeks maximum.

A cinema can be supported only for programming a film which has been supported for its distribution. Beside, in certain cases, a film will be supported for its distribution, but not for its exhibition.
